Comprehensive Perimenopause and Menopause Care at Follaine Health:

What is menopause?

Menopause marks the beginning of the non-reproductive stage of life and is officially diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period or any bleeding. If you go 11 months without bleeding but then have a period, the 12-month count restarts. The average age for menopause is 52.

Menopause can happen naturally or be medically induced. Natural menopause occurs when menstrual cycles stop for a full year without any other underlying cause. Medically induced menopause results from interventions such as surgical removal of the ovaries, chemotherapy, radiation, or certain medications that halt menstrual cycles.
